C. A. RICE FAMILY

Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Rice came to Frontier county in 1887, where Mr. Rice took a tree claim, six miles south of here. Later returning to Olmstead Falls, Ohio and then in 1890 returned here and traded the tree claim to Geno Wood for the farm, just where the cemetery is now located.
Leaving the farm in 1900 Mr. and Mrs. Rice moved to Farnam, where they made their home the remainder of their lives. Mr. Rice died July 20, 1919, and on Jan. 22, 1922 his companion of 47 years was called to her reward.
Mr. Rice became a deacon of the Congregational church in 1895, and held that office the remainder of his life.
Mr. and Mrs. Rice were the parents of one daughter, Mrs. Myrtle Velte, who resides at Farnam.

O. F. JOHNSON FAMILY

Mr. and Mrs. O. F. Johnson came from Iowa to Nebraska in 1884. When they got to Plum Creek, now Lexington, they stopped and Mr. Johnson farmed about 9 miles west of there, with a bachelor that summer. Prospects were fine for a crop, but hail came and destroyed everything. That fall the family came to Farnam and located on a homestead about 10 miles south o fhere.
Mr. and Mrs. Johnson were the parents of 12 children, ten of whom are still living. They are: Edward, Ervin and Clarence, Hillrose, Colo.; Owen, 2720 Court St., Pueblo, Colo.; Arthur, Ogallala; Sylvester, at C. C. C. Camp 1860, Ft. Collins, Colo.; Mrs. (Maud) Rauhauser, White Swan, Wash.; Mrs. Wm. Hurshman Grace and George Johnson of Farnam.
