Faulkes Family
Came in 1885

Mr. and Mrs. G. D. Faulkes with their son, Marion came from Grinell, Iowa to this country in 1885. They first moved to Frontier county where they lived in a sod house and fought through the early pioneering days on the western prairies. After a few years he entered the grain business at Farnam and in 1900 together with his son engaged in the hardware and various other lines of business. In 1919 both families moved to Los Angeles where they have since resided, Mr. Faulkes having passed away Dec. 24, 1931. Mrs. Faulkes recently suffered a severe fall, breaking her hip and wrist and at this time is confined to her bed. Her old friends all wish for her speedy recovery.

A tribute in the form of a poem was written in memory of George J. Faulkes at the time of his death by a young woman who lived just across the street, entitled "Uncle Dell."
It portrays the beautiful character of the deceased.
"Uncle Dell"
Each day he sat on his porch and watched.
The world as it moved at his feet,
He saw what no other man could see,

As he smiled from his shady porch seat.
He loved the laughter and neighborhood folks,
And he cried aloud in his glee
At the children who gathered around his steps,
And climbed ‘way up high on his knee.

He sat for hours to dream of the past,
And then to some neighborly ear
Would tell of the time when he, as a lad,
Set forth on his own without fear.
And thus when they called him to happier days,
He went with a song in his heart,
For though he left those to grieve O'er his chair,
In spirit he shall never depart.
