Gordins Homesteaded
Near Orafino in 1885

Mr. and Mrs. S. E. Gordin and daughter homesteaded in Frontier county about 10 miles south of Farnam in 1885, and it was here that the family endured the early day hardships along with the other pioneers of this section of the country.
The family came from Searsburg, Iowa to Oxford where they remained for a short time, then to the homestead south of here where they built them a dugout to live in until they could get a soddy built. Five years later they built a frame house. In 1908 they sold their homestead to the late
John DeLate, father of Mrs. Frank Waits and moved to Curtis. Don Nickerson is now on the place and the house is the one built by the Gordins.
Mr. Gordin was a harness maker by trade and operated a shoe and harness shop in Curtis until two years before his death, when he retired because of ill health. Mr. and Mrs. Gordin enjoyed a Golden wedding anniversary celebration in the Methodist church at Curtis, Sept. 7, 1926 with 300 guests present.
Mr. Gordin died at his home in Curtis February 25, 1932 at the age of 75.
Mrs. Gordin lives at Curtis and her daughter, Mrs. Nellie Ann Brainard and husband have a nice home in Grant.
