An Early Day Fourth of July Picnic Group
at the Circle-Bar Ranch

Early Day Fourth of July Picnic

The above group picture is of a Fourth of July Sunday School picnic held at the Circle-Bar ranch west of Ingham in 1887. Because of the lack of trees in most of the country at that time, this was the only place where they could find enough shade trees to hold a picnic.

The identifying of the people in this picture has been quite difficult, but some of the early settlers have picked them out as follows:

Dawson, George Voodry, Clayton Rolph, standing slightly back of others; Frank Dawson, Joe Tillotson, Willis Stebbins, Jay Stebbins, Col. Dunton, S. F. Parker, C. Bradshaw, C. E. Jackson, J. W. Dawson, Mrs. Mary Dunton-Watt, Mrs. Laura Moore-Stebbins, Carrie Halloway, Mrs. Bird Dunton-Smith, Mrs. Frank Alden, Mrs. Cedar, Mrs. Chas. Dunton, Grandma Fitch, Mrs. W. H. Rolph, last one unidentified.

The children in the foreground are Moore and Dawson children. The man with the beard sitting in the center foreground is N. L. Moore. The people at the left of the picture, which were not identified were from Moorefield vicinity.
