Obituary

The death of Charles O. Lind, one of the best known pioneer citizens of Lincoln county, occurred on Dec. 23, 1911, at his home in Snell Canyon.

Charles O. Lind was born at Christiana, Norway, Dec. 15, 1829. He immigrated to Montreal, Canada, in 1850, and six months later removed to Vernon county, Wisconsin.

He was married Nov. 7th, 1864, to Ingrid Everson.

He moved to Lincoln county, Neb., in 1879, where he had resided up to the time of his death. He was one of the first homesteaders in Gaslin precinct.

His children are Josephine Marcott, of Dillon, Col., Nettie Elliott, Maria Dovenbarger, Kate Fagg, Adolph C. Lind, Otto Lind, all of Brady; Elsie Thomson, of Maxwell, and Jennie Daniels, of Hershey. He left twenty-two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Lind was a hard working man up to the time that his health failed, some three years ago.

He was honest in all his dealings, and the old timers who remain and knew him will join with me in saying that his word was a good as gold.

Coming here as he did, in the early days, having a large family, he certainly had a hard struggle to make ends meet. However, at the last moment he was able to say, “Well done, good and faithful father; I have no one to meet to whom I could not extend my hand with a clear conscience.”

The services were conducted by Rev. McAbee, of Brady, at the 101 school house, Dec. 26 last, and the attendance was very large, proving his extended friendship in the community. The remains were laid to rest in Gaslin cemetery, of which he was a charter member in 1888.

The pallbearers were Wm. Johnson, John Connelly, I. N. Wells, T. T. Marcott, Olaff Johnson and P. B. Bloom. —T.T.M.
