Adelay Bassler
Adelay Elva Bassler was born July 23, 1923, to Emil F. H. Johnson and Judith Louise Issacson. Young Emil and Judith left Smollen, Sweden, with their respective families. It was on that boat headed for “America” that they met for the first time. This is the beginning. They arrived at Ellis Island and traveled to a small town, Farnam, Nebraska. This was where they called home. They were a hardworking and loving family.
Adelay adored her parents. Emil and Judith were blessed with 12 children who were born at the family farm just eight miles outside of town. Adelay was the 11th child of 12. At the young feisty age of 94, she had lived through the loss of both parents and 11 of her brothers and sisters. Adelay lived her life to the fullest.
She and her husband, Harry Bassler, arrived in Tehachapi in 1952. Here they farmed alfalfa; owned and operated a bar, “Hitching Post;” a restaurant, “Snack Hut;” and an auto body shop, “Bassler’s Auto Body.” They raised their three children in Tehachapi.
Adelay was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; daughter, Kay; eldest son, Delbert Leonard. She is survived by her youngest son, Richard and wife, Karen of Oregon; daughter-in-law, Robin Jones of Tehachapi; brother, Donald Johnson of Thousand Oaks; 6 grandchildren; 13 great-grandkids; and 7 great-great-grandkids.
Adelay will be laid to rest on January 20, 2018, in Tehachapi at the Tehachapi Public Cemetery – Eastside, at 11:00 a.m., where she will be together again with her daughter and husband.
