Gerene Groenewold

Gerene Groenewold, 84, of North Platte, Nebraska, died May 20, 2024 at Great Plains Health in North Platte.

Gerene Ann Deselms McPeak Groenewold was born in Edison, NE on October 5, 1939 to Arthur Franklin Deselms Sr. and Mabel Fern (Slonecker) and joined older brother Aurthur “Jim” Franklin Deselms Jr.

Her family moved to a farm southeast of a small country community by Holyoke, CO called Amitie. She attended grade school in Amitie for grades one-four. Her father contracted polio and had to quit farming. The family then moved to Holyoke, where she finished grade school and high school. Upon graduating from high school, she moved to Ogallala and went to work at what was to become T.R.W.

There she met and married Arlen Lee McPeak. To this union four sons were born: Michael, Daniel, William and Timothy. The couple was married for 23 years when Arlen passed. Gerene was widowed for several years when she met Raymond Groenewold. Gerene moved to Farnam, NE and became Mrs. Raymond Groenewold. Upon marrying Raymond two more children were added her family: Rodney and Georgie. She worked alongside of Raymond in their house moving business until both retired in 2007.

She cherished her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Survived by four sons; Daniel (Lori) of Farnam, William (Stephanie) of Ogallala, Timothy of Lincoln and Rodney (Becky) of Kingsport, TN and daughter Georgie (Jim) Flesch, Gothenburg; 13 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren. Special niece and family include Bill and Julie Armstrong, great-niece, Katlynn, and great-nephew, Samuel, O'fallon, IL. She considered them grandchildren. Nephews David (Daveda) and Paul of Melbourne, Australia.

Preceded in death by her parents, husbands Arlen and Raymond, son Michael and brother Jim (Kathy).

Services will be held at Farnam Methodist Church, Saturday, May 25, 2024 at 3:00 pm with Pastor Elmo Herman officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Operation Christmas Child.
