Ray Craig
FARNAM — Ray William Craig, former Lincoln County Superintendent of Schools, died Friday at the Gothenburg hospital long-term unit. He was 81.
Born Jan. 24, 1908, north of Farnam, to Lemuel “Dick” and Gertrude Atkinson Craig, he graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1925, attended Union College and University of Nebraska-Lincoln and received his B.A. and M.A. from Kearney State College.
He married Carrie Beeman on Dec. 28, 1928, at Lincoln.
Mr. Craig taught elementary schools in Dawson and Lincoln counties for 40 years and was the Lincoln County Sperintendent of Schools for 16 years, retiring in 1987.
A Boy Scout master for 25 years, he had been awarded the Silver Beaver award.
Survivors include his wife, Carrie of Farnam; a brother, Harley of Brush, Colo.; and a sister, Agnes McLean of Sterling, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be Tuesday 2 p.m. at McVay Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg with the Rev. Dale Coates officiating. Burial will be in the Gaslin Cemetery, south of Brady.
A memorial has been established to the Brady United Methodist Church.
McVay Memorial Chapel of Gothenburg is in charge of arrangements.
