Ruben H. Guenthner
MASON NECK, Va. — Ruben H. Guenthner, 87, former resident of North Platte, died April 2, 1991, at Alexandria, Va.
Mr. Guenthner was employed from 1935 until 1947 by Northwestern Public Service Company in North Platte.
He was born in Bridgewater, S.D., Jan. 4, 1904, and was a 1929 graduate of South Dakota School of Mines in Rapid City. While there, he was a member of Sigma Tau honorary society.
He retired in 1965 from a government service career where he served in the U.S. Weather Bureau and U.S. Air Force as an electrical engineer involved in research and development of weather measuring instrumentation.
While with the Weather Bureau, he was instrumental in developing and patenting cloud height measuring equipment.
He was a member of St. Luke’s Methodist Church in Washington, D.C., Cochituate, Mass., and the Springfield Methodist Church in Springfield, Va.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Genieve; a daughter, Shirley Guenthner of Denver, Colo.; three sons, Eugene of Frederick, Md., Jerry D. of Lorton, Va., and Jerome D. of Falls Church, Va.; a sister, Helen Buehler of Bridgewater, S.D.; a brother, Edmond of Hiwassi, Ark.; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Since Mr. Guenthner was a past member of the Lions Club, memorials are suggested to the Lions Eye Bank.
Memorial services were Friday in Mason Neck.
