Carolyn Malcom

Carolyn Yvonne Malcom, 80, of Cozad, Nebraska, died May 13, 2023 at her home in Cozad with her family by her side.

She was born on January 21st, 1943, in Farnam, NE, to Earl and Belle (Derra) Thomalla. Carolyn was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend who had a kind heart and always put others before herself.

After graduating from Gothenburg Public Schools, Carolyn attended Dental Assistant School in Lincoln. She worked as a Dental Assistant in Cozad, and spent several years working at Monroe Auto, Jack and Jill Grocery Store, and Baldwin Filters. Carolyn was also Co-Owner and Manager of Malcom Plumbing, Heating, and Air Conditioning.

Carolyn was a devoted member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Cozad, where she was Catholic Lady of the Year in 2019, served as a member of the Altar Society and Funeral Committee, and was actively involved as a CCD Teacher, choir member, and participant in the Rosary Prayer Chain.

Her priorities were her faith, family, and friends, whom she loved so deeply. In her free time, Carolyn enjoyed music, cooking, reading, sewing, watching Husker sports, and planting beautiful flowers at her home. She loved family holiday gatherings where she treasured spending time with all those most important to her.

Carolyn is survived by her husband of 57 years, Larry Malcom; children Billie Jo (Steven) Schrad and their children Sydney and Mallory Schrad of Omaha; Angela (Kurt) Fessler and their children Logan and Matthew Fessler of Lincoln; Tony (Norma) Malcom and their children Natalie and Westyn Malcom of Cozad; Jerry (Katie) Malcom and their children Carter, of Avondale, AZ, and Brooklyn (Logan) Stewart of Cedar Bluffs; one great-grandson expected in May; brothers Mike (Adrian) Thomalla and Steve (Kelly) Thomalla; sister-in-law Paula (Barry) Pfister; and sister-in-law Rita Thomalla; along with many extended family and friends.

In addition to her parents Earl and Belle Thomalla, Carolyn was preceded in death by her brothers Douglas, Gary, and Bill.

A Visitation with the family present will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church, Cozad, NE on Monday, May 22, 2023, 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm, with a Christian Vigil Service held at 7:00 pm.

Funeral Mass will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church in Cozad on May 23, 2023 at 10:00 am.

Rite of Committal and burial will follow in the Gothenburg Cemetery.

Memorials in memory of Carolyn may be made to the family for future designation.
