Burial in Emanuel
Graveside services for Arthur Franklin Chambers, 97, Valley Falls, will be in Emanuel Cemetery near Alta Vista Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock.
Funeral services will be Saturday morning at 10:30 o’clock at Nellis-Hagge Funeral Home in Valley Falls. Relatives and friends will meet form 7:00 to 8:00 o’clock Friday night at the funeral home, where Mr. Chambers will lie in state after 7:00 o’clock tonight.
He died Wednesday, December 26, at a Winchester nursing home.
Mr. Chambers farmed until 1946, when he moved to Topeka. He later was a custodian at Highland Park high school, the Salvation Army, United States Organization, and U. S. Post Office, all in Topeka, and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Retirement Home in Manhattan.
He was born in Farnam, Neb., son of [Isaac] and Stella [Hodgins] Chambers. He moved from Farnam to Centralia when he was 12 years old.
He resided in the Wilsey and Alta Vista communities after 1920 and had been at Valley Falls since 1971.
Mr. Chambers was a member of Emanuel United Methodist Church, near Alta Vista.
His marriage to Alvena Reinike Pape was November 12, 1924. She survives.
Other survivors include a son, Elmore L. “Bud” Chambers, Valley Falls, a stepdaughter, Mrs. Myrtle Pape Eberhart, Topeka; two grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren; two great-grandsons, nine step-great-grandchildren, and a step-great-great-grandson.
A memorial has been established in his honor for the Valley Falls Rescue Unit, in care of the funeral home.
