Mrs. Sarah Ellen Waterbury
Mrs. Sarah Ellen Waterbury passed away Friday, March 4th, at her home in Gothenburg, at seven o’clock in the evening, at the age of 59 years, 10 months and 9 days. Sarah Ellen was born April 24th, 1872, to Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Carey, in Sholett, Michigan. She moved with her parents to St. Joseph, Mo., at the age of fifteen years, where she was united in marriage to Mr. John Putnam. They moved to Nebraska, where to this union five children were born: Luella May, who passed away in infancy; Mrs. Minnie M. Earll, Mr. John Putnam, Mrs. Flossie P. Davenport, who passed away in 1923, and Mrs. Ora B. J. Blodgett.
Her husband, Mr. John Putnam, passed away in 1907. In later years, Mrs. Putnam moved to Lawrence, Kas., where she united with the First Baptist church; later she moved to Brady, Nebr., where she was married to Mr. Pete Waterbury. She lived in Brady until about four years ago, when she moved to Gothenburg, and where she remained until the last. Three years ago she united with the Baptist church of this city.
Those who remain to mourn her loss are three children, Mrs. Warren Earll, of the south side; Mr. John Putnam and Mrs. William Blodgett, of Gothenburg; twenty-eight grandchildren and one great-grandson, two sisters and one brother, Mrs. Frank Putnam, Mrs. John Earll and Mr. Dave Carey, with a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Baptist church, Rev. Barton of Farnam conducting the service. Burial was made in the Peckham cemetery.
