Man, 52, drowns
as boat capsizes

A SUISIN CITY man drowned yesterday after his boat capsized off Mussel Point at the south end of Salmon Creek Beach north of Bodega Bay near Highway 1.

A Sonoma County sheriff’s spokeswoman identified the dead man as William Russell, 52, who was washed ashore at about 2:25 p.m. with his son-in-law.

The son-in-law, Marc Bournival, 24, of Vacaville, was taken to Palm Drive Hospital in Sebastopol and released.

According to the spokeswoman, Bournival told authorities that he and Russell had been thrown into the water but stayed beside their boat, The Sea Mutt, for nearly three hours after it was swamped and overturned about two miles offshore. Bournival said rough seas washed them ashore with the boat. Although he ran about a mile to get help, his father-in-law was dead on the beach when sheriff’s deputies and CHP officers arrived.
