A Blue Star Changed to Gold
Roy F. Clark, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Clark of Moorefield, was born at Pineville, Mo., June 8, 1895 and departed this life in France, Oct. 27, 1918; age 23 years 4 months and 19 days.
When Roy was six months old the family moved to Moorefield and have made their home in this vicinity ever since.
He volunteered his services to his country June 21, 1917, being mustered into Co. L of the 5th Nebraska regiment, then stationed at Gothenburg. Sept. 13 he was taken with his Company to Camp Cody, and there kept until July 1918 he was taken overseas as a part of the great American Expeditionary Forces.
The folks received the sad message from the Government on Nov. 20, announcing the death of Roy on Oct. 27 as a result of Pneumonia. He leaves his parents, one sister and three brothers to mourn his departure from the family fireside, but amid their grief they will cherish a memory of a son and brother who died at his post, in the service of his country fighting for the welfare of all the world. After all that can be said by the friends and neighbors, who join the bereaved family in their deep sorrow. Yet no moment can ever be reared to his sterling qualities, than to hold his memory of that of a faithful son, and brother, neighbor and soldier; which ought to be an example before the community, and an inspiration for service to our fellow men. He was a charter member of Moorefield Homestead of Yeoman.
Memorial service was held at Moorefield church Sunday afternoon December 1, conducted by Rev. Minort of Farnam.
