W. C. Reed, Stockville
Pioneer Passes Away

William Curtis Reed was born April 1, 1866, at Macomb, Warren County, Illinois. He was the oldest of five children, two of whom survive him; Mrs. Charles Washburn of Stockville, (at present in Redlands, Calif.), and Mrs. Jane Fenton of Clarkston, Washington.

About 1873 he, with his parents, moved to Guthrie County, Iowa, where they resided until about 1882 when they moved to the vicinity of Dorchester, Nebraska. After living here a year they moved to Frontier County in 1884, locating on a farm about four miles northeast of Stockville in the neighborhood in which he resided at the time of his death.

On Deceber 23, 1888, he was united in marriage to Marthe H. Crooks, at Danbury, Nebraska. To this union were born three children; Bernice, Bernard and Vernelle. Of the twins, the son, Bernard, died in infancy, and Bernice lived to be two and a half years old.

Mr. Reed was always active in the affairs of the county. In an official capacity he served Frontier county as county recorder and as clerk of the district court.

He passed from this life, December 25, 1936. He is survived by his wife, the sisters named above, his daughter, Mrs. Arlo Lindsey, her husband and three boys, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Stockville Congregational church, Rev. Messersmith and Rev. Nyrop in charge. Stockville I.O.O.F. Lodge, of which Mr. Reed was a member, had charge of the services at the grave.
