Lester Donelson
SCRANTON — Funeral services for Lester Homer Irving Donelson, 79, of Scranton will be held at the United Methodist Church here at 11 a.m. Thursday. He died unexpectedly at 10:30 a.m. July 2 at the Greene County Medical Center, Jefferson.
The Rev. David Barker will officiate at the rites; burial will be in the Scranton Cemetery. Friends may call at the Dahn-Woodhouse Funeral Home in Scranton, where memorial services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday by the Scranton Odd Fellows Lodge. The casket will be taken to the church Thursday at 9 a.m. for viewing until the time of services.
Mr. Donelson was born June 22, 1893, at Farnam, Neb., a son of John and Hildegard Onnerberg Donelson. He was a veteran of World War I. On June 26, 1925, he was married to Minnie Irene Ryons at Holdrege, Neb. They have been residents of the Scranton area for 17 years, coming from Clarinda in October, 1955. Mr. Donelson was a meat cutter for over 40 years and had retired.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Scranton, a member and past noble grand of the I.O.O.F. and Rebekah Lodges, and a member and past commander of the American Legion.
Mr. Donelson’s survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Dick (Beverly) Dougherty of Marshalltown; two sons, Kenneth of Tempe, Ariz., and Ronald of Bremerton, Wash.; ten grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Lily Oman of North Platte, Neb.; and a brother, Percy Donelson of Bothell, Wash.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Phyllis Darlene; two sisters, Phoebe and Inez; and four brothers, Hubert, Vincent, Bert and Roy.
