Obituary of Mrs. Richard Brown
Nancy Salena Cauffman was born July 20, 1867 at Claypool, Ind., and died at Cambridge, Nebr., January 6, 1927. Age 59 years, 5 months and 17 days.
She was united in marriage with Richard Brown, July 25, 1885. To this union six children were born, two sons and four daughters, all of whom are living and were present at the funeral.
On April 2, 1886, she, with her husband, arrived at Cambridge, Nebr., to make the west their future home. Taking up their abode on a farm north of Cambridge, in the Orafino neighborhood, in which community was their home at the time of her death.
Mrs. Brown was born in an Evangelical parsonage. Her father was the Rev. John Cauffman of the Indiana Conference of the Evangelical church. Her early training had much to do in molding her beautiful Christian character. At the age of sixteen she confessed her acceptance of Christ and united with the Evangelical church, and was a most respected member of the Orafino Evangelical church at the time of her departure from this temporal home to be with God. She loved Christ and His church, and was always doing her best in His service. The church has been greatly enriched because of her pleasant and persuasive Christian influence. The community has been enobled by her Christian character. The home has been blessed by her sacrificial Christian service. Such lives stimulate youth to the highest ideals, inspires men and women to be courageous and patient, and most emphatically declares that it pays to “be like Jesus.”
She leaves to mourn her death, her husband, two sons, four daughters, fifteen grandchildren, one sister, four brothers, many other relatives and a host of friends.
The funeral services were held at the Orafino Evangelical church Saturday, January 8th, at 1:00 p.m. Interment took place in the Denny cemetery. Rev. I. L. Kennedy of Cambridge officiated, assisted by Rev. H. D. Brookens.
