Vella V. Herndon, 99, a resident of North Platte since 1944, died Friday at a local nursing home.

She was born May 6, 1891, at Nelson to Granville and Genevieve Elder Todd and moved to Frontier county as a young lady. She married Lewis Herndon on Sept. 24, 1913, at Moorefield.

Mrs. Herndon was a member of the Church of God.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Arthur and Velna of Moorefield; a daughter, Vernell “Jackie” Baker of North Platte; six grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband in May 1982, three brothers, two sisters and two grandsons.

Services will be Monday 1:30 p.m. at the Adams and Swanson Chapel with Pastor Chuck Mayfield of the First Church of the Open Bible officiating. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens.

Adams and Swanson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
