Lewis E. Herndon, 90, Route 2, North Platte, died Friday in a local nursing home.

He was born Sept. 10, 1891 at Ragan, Neb. He came to the Moorefield community in 1906. He married Vella Todd on Sept. 24, 1913 at Moorefield. In 1942 he moved to Buckley, Wash., and returned to North Platte in 1945 where he had lived ever since. For a number of years he was employed at the Lincoln County Courthouse. He retired in 1964.

Mr. Herndon was a member of the First Baptist Church at Ragan.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Arthur Herndon of Moorefield; one daughter, Vernell “Jackie” Baker of North Platte; one brother, Walter Herndon of Anaheim, Calif.; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

Services are set for Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Adams Swanswon Chapel with the Rev. Lynn Bergfalk of the First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Floral Lawns Memorial Gardens.

Adams and Swanson Funeral Home of North Platte is in charge of arrangements.
