Mrs. Mary J. Voodry Dies at Age of 94 Years
After Illness of Many Months Duration Aged Lady Sinks Peacefully Into Last Rest
Mary J. Voodry, 94, a resident of this city for the past fifteen years, passed away last evening at the home of her sister, Mrs. Lois Troop, where she made her home during her residence here in Plattsmouth.
Mrs. Voodry had been very poorly for many months and her condition gradually greew worse until the past few days, altho to the last she retained her faculties.
Despite the great years of her lifetime Mrs. Voodry retained a great interest in the affairs of the world and the community and when able was active in the W. R. C. as well as the W. C. T. U. and other organizations in which she retained a great interest.
Mary J. Moore was born in the state of Ohio, March 4, 1839, her parents residing on a farm in that state which was owned by William Henry Harrison, later president of the United States. When a child the family moved to Missouri where they remained for a number of years, the father of the deceased lady leaving the family there as he made his way to the gold fields of California. Later the family moved to Iowa and the deceased made her home at Davenport for a number of years, she being married there to J. W. Voodry. In 1878 Mr. and Mrs. Voodry came to Nebraska and lived at North Platte for some years, later going to Maywood where Mr. Voodry conducted a general store until his death in 1917. On the death of her husband Mrs. Voodry disposed of her interests at Maywood and came to Plattsmouth where she made her home with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Troop.
Of the family of the parents and six children, Mrs. Troop is the only survivor, altho a number of nieces and nephews are left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Voodry.
The funeral of Mrs. Voodry will be held on Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Troop residence at Ninth and Granite streets.
