Obituary
Mrs. Elizabeth Billings Murphy, wife of Captain Edward B. Murphy was born in Keokuk, Iowa, September 16, 1846 and departed her life here on earth on December 12th, 1926 at Hollywood, California.
Her husband, who died in 1899, came to Nebraska in 1864 and was one of the first pioneers of the west, being instrumental in laying out the town of Arapahoe. Mrs. Murphy came to Arapahoe two years later to join him.
To this union four children were born. Two, Stewart Murphy of Palisade, Nebraska, and Mrs. Sheldon Wheeler of Hollywood, Cal., are living. A son, Lee, killed in U. S. Service in the Philippines in 1900, and a daughter, Edna, who died in 1924, are buried here. Besides her relatives she leaves a host of intimate friends whom she loved and by whom she was loved.
She was always a member of the Episcopal church and faithful to its duties, she was known for her straightforwardness, sincerity, integrity and generosity which marked her as a true follower of Christ.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 o’clock Sunday afternoon from the St. Paul’s Episcopal church, Rev. H. E. Nelson in charge. Interment in the family lot at the Arapahoe cemetery.
