Mrs. Sophia Whitney Dies at Tangent
Mrs. Sophia Margaret Whitney died at her home in the Tangent neighborhood at 6:30 a.m. today, Dec. 8. She was born in Rochester, N.Y., and had spent her life in that state, Nebraska and Colorado before coming to Oregon in 1906. She was married at Raymond, Wis., Oct. 5, 1878, to William A. Whitney, who died at their home May 6, 1937.
Surviving are the following children: Mrs. Maude Maltby and J. W. Whitney of Tangent, Mrs. F. E. Cook of Bend, Mrs. I. E. Wymore of St. Helens, and W. H. Whitney of Fort Madison, Iowa; a sister, Mrs. T. M. Kearney of Racine, Wis., and a brother, J. L. Rohr, of Milwaukee, Wis; eight grandchildren; and six great-granchildren. Mrs. Whitney was a member of the Methodist church of Tangent. Funeral services will be held from the Fortmiller funeral home at a date to be announced later. Interment is to be made in the Willamette Memorial Park.
