Blair Woman Came to the
County 73 Years Ago
Plan Rites Sunday


Mrs. Susan Newell, 86, widow of M. D. Newell and a resident ot Washington County since about 1876, died last night at Blair Hospital. SHe had been ill ten days.

The body was removed to the Ericson Funeral Home in Wahoo. Tentative plans are for funeral services to be held Sunday afternoon at the Bendorf Funeral Home in Blair, interment to follow in Blair Cemetery.

Susan Hall was born in Kentucky Jan. 22, 1862, and came to this county when about 14 years old to live on an uncle’s farm near Herman. She and Mr. Newell were married Sept. 6, 1880, in Blair.

With the exception of 16 years spent homesteading in Frontier County, the Newells lived in Washington County all their wedded life. Mr. Newell died Nov. 16, 1944, after the couple had been married 64 years.

At the time of her death, Mrs. Newell was residing at 71 West Lincoln St.

Mrs. Newell is surived by a son, E. S. Newell of Los Angeles. A daughter, Mrs. F. S. Jenkins, died in August, 1947.

Other survivors include six grandchildren, Mrs. William Suverkrubbe (Ruth) of Fort Calhoun and Ed Jenkins of Omaha, Mrs. Clifford Ericson (Catherine) of Wahoo, Mrs. Clifford Brewster (Edna) of the Canal Zone, Mrs. Sue Bruce of Los Angeles and Myron D. Newell of Riverside, Calif.

There are three brothers, William, James and Henry Hall, all of Arlington; two sisters, Mrs. Cynthia Springgate and Mrs. Tishia Schlapfer, both of Arlington, and several sisters living in Kentucky.
