Last Rites for Elwood Clark

Elwood David Clark was born in Gentry county, Missouri, on November 16, 1864, and died at his home south of Gothenburg, Nebraska, on December 7, 1935, aged 71 years and 21 days.

On the 10th of June, 1891, he was united in marriage to Mary Gladstone.

To this union nine children were born, one daughter, Mary Alice, preceding him in death April 15, 1909. Surviving are the wife, six sons and two daughters: David A., of Overton; Walter G., of Brea, Calif.; Jane Kerr, Omaha; Elizabeth Reynolds, Elko, Nevada; James S., William E., John C., and George C., of Gothenburg. Thirteen grandchildren, one brother, R. D. Curran, of North Platte, Nebr., and numerous other relatives.

He, with his family, moved to Freedom, Nebr., in 1907. About 1912 he purchased from Marion Faulkes his interest in the Best Place Mercantile Company and for two years lived at Farnam. In 1914 he moved to Gothenburg where he has since resided.

In his younger days he was active in community affairs and in later years was deeply concerned about the welfare of his friends, community and country.

Himself friendly, Mr. Clark made a host of friends, all of whom join his family in mourning his passing.

Funeral services were in Banner church on the South Side, near which he made his home for the past 21 years. Rev. John Pressly officiated. The public address system was used in order that the huge gathering which taxed the capacity of the building, might all hear the service.

A mixed quartette, composed of Mrs. Mason Hyde, Miss Rachel Hyde, Walter Trimble and Will Findlay, accompanied by Mrs. Walter Trimble, furnished music. Mr. Clark’s sons acted as his pall bearers. Interment was made at Peckham cemetery.
