William Marlin Has Passed Away
Had Been a Resident of This Community for the Past Twenty-two Years
Came to Settle Scotts Bluff County in 1900 and Made Success in Farming and Stock Raising
William Marlin passed away at his home in this city on last Saturday, November 4, after an illness that has extended over a period of a year of more, but from which he has ben bedfast for only about one week. The community in the death of Mr. Marlin loses one of its most able citizens, who has been a resident of this section of the state for the past twenty-two years and who has been not only successful in his own line of farming and stock raising, but who has aided materially in the upbuilding of the valley, taking a prominent part in its political and commercial progress. He was in every respect an able citizen, firm in his convictions and possessing the courage to fight for his beliefs and for what he saw to be for the best for the future of his community.
In 1879 Mr. Marlin homesteaded in Frontier county, Nebraska, where he resided until 1900, when he came to Scotts Bluff county, locating on a homestead which later came under the government ditch, and where he made a success in agriculture and in the raising of stock, the Marlin farm being on of the best under the government ditch. He also invested in city property, his comfortable home being located on Ninth avenue near Overland Drive.
William Marlin was born in Franklin county, Indiana, on February 19, 1852. On December 8, 1875, he was married to Amanda Ray at Greenburg, Ind., and to this union were born Mrs. Dora Rosenfelt, of Scottsbluff; John C. Marlin, of West Union, Iowa; Jesse Marlin and Clifford Marlin of Scottsbluff; Otis Marlin, living in the East Indies; Ben, Cora, Mrs. Nora Ashbrook and William Marlin, Jr., all of Scottsbluff, and Mrs. Viola Saunders of Kearney, Nebr. He is also survived by his wife, Mrs. Amanda Marlin, and three brothers, Cicero, Eathan and Grant.
The funeral services were helde from the late home of the deceased yesterday afternoon at 2 o’clock, Rev. Spurrier officating, interment taking place in Fairview cemetery.
