John W. McElwain
Dies at 87 Years

John W. McElwain, a native of Pennsylvania who had lived in Nebraska since 1886 and came to Hastings in 1931, died Thursday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Elsie Dalton, with whom he had resided for a number of years. He was 87 years of age.

McElwain was born September 7, 1870, in Lancaster county, Pennsylvania, and came to Frontier county in Nebraska when he was 16 years old. He was a barber before his retirement from an active career, and a member of Grace Evangelical United Brethren Church. For 50 years McElwain was a Sunday school teacher in Hastings and other communities in which he had resided.

Survivors are his sons and daughters, Lloyd of Portland, Ore., Brenard of Hastings, Mrs. Floy Westfall of Littleton, Colo., and Mrs. Dalton; three grandchildren, and his brother and sister, Harry McElwain of Independence, Mo., and Mrs. Anna Hauck of Rochester, N. Y.

The Rev. Doyle Hays will officiate in services Saturday morning at 10:30 o’clock in the Brand Memorial Chapel and burial will be in Parkview cemetery.
