Catherine Elnora McElwain was born in Lancaster county, Penn., Jan 9, 1869 and died at her home east of Mt. Zion, Nov. 13, 1935 at the age of 66 years, 10 months, and 4 days. She was united in marriage with Benjamin F. Downard on Feb 10, 1887. To this union was four children were born: Boyd E. Downard, of Gainesville, Mo; Mrs. John Logan of Douds, IA; E. Ross Downard of Galena, IL; and Mrs. Roy Pell of Marshalltown, IA.

She is survived by her husband, four children; eleven grandchildren; one great grandchild; three sisters; and two brothers, one of whom is Harry McElwain of Mt. Zion.

In her girlhood she attended the academy at Henry, IL. In early life she was united with the Methodist church and lived a devoted Christian life to the end.

Funeral services were held at Miller’s Chapel Friday afternoon in charge of the Rev. M. E. Hayes of Keosauqua. Interment was in the cemetery near the church.
