Mrs. Minnie Hecox, 85, Passes On; Was A Pioneer Homesteader
Minnie M. Graves was born on August 10, 1865, in Rutland, Meggs county, Ohio. She departed this life on Nov. 29, 1950, at the age of 85 years, 3 months and 19 days, having been confined to her home in Gothenburg for nearly a year.
As a young girl she accepted Christ as her Saviour and was baptized and became a member of the Baptist church near her home in Ohio. Soon after this she moved to Nebraska, and lived with her mother in Cozad and Kearney for several years.
On May 18, 1882, she was united in marriage to Fred G. Hecox at Kearney, Nebraska. To this union were born three sons and one daughter. Her husband preceded her in death, on Sept. 28, 1924.
Soon after their marriage they moved to the homestead southwest of Gothenburg, and years later moved into Gothenburg and her she resided the major portion of the rest of her life.
Minnie Hecox was one of the pioneer mothers of this community, and her passing will be a great loss to her many friends, neighbors and relatives. Her kindness, love, and thoughfulness as a mother and grandmother will be long remembered.
Those left to mourn her passing are: her daughter, Mrs. Lula Young of Gothenburg; her three sons, Albert and Ralph of Gothenburg, and Rex of Cozad; and one nephew, Spencer Graves of Redding, Calif. She had one brother who preceded her in death. She also leaves eight grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, besides other relatives.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, Dec. 1st, at the Olesen Funeral Home, at 2:30, Rev. Stanley Malmgren, pastor of the Antelope Center Baptist church, officiating. Mrs. Robert Hecox and Mrs. Alvin Bringelson sang two numbers, accompanied by Mrs. Walter Trimble at the piano. Robert Hecox, Fred Hecox, Eugene Hecox, Walter, Hecox, Charles Hecox and Richard Hecox served as pallbearers. Interment was in the Peckham cemetery.
