Lloyd E. Peterson
Lloyd E. “Pete” Peterson, 90, of Omaha, formerly of Gothenburg, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2014.
Services were Monday at the John Gentleman Chapel in Omaha.
Peterson was born at Ingham on March 7, 1924. He graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1941, and was one of three brothers to serve during World War II.
He enlisted with the U.S. Army Air Corps and was a pilot in the European theater.
Peterson also graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and was a lifelong fan of Nebraska football, family members said. He had a long career in the insurance business and owned Dunbar-Peterson Insurance Agency in Omaha until his retirement.
He stayed connected to the Gothenburg area through family ties and a long-standing business partnership of Blaine & Lloyd Peterson Land & Cattle.
Peterson enjoyed socializing, humorous stories and tales of life in the Ingham/Farnam/Gothenburg areas, according to family members. He lived a good life and leaves a wealth of memories, family and friends.
He was an avid golfer and a private pilot, flying his own twin engine plane for numerous years
Peterson was preceded in death by: his parents, Oscar H. and Josie (Brown) Peterson; wife, Priscilla Bailey Peterson; brothers—Harold, Bill and Glenn Peterson; infant siblings—Marion B, Marjorie Lee, Stanley Roger and Veryl Lou Peterson.
Survivors include: his wife, Kate Mellen-Peterson; children—Brooke (Diane Tegmeyer) Peterson of Aspen, CO, Pamela (John) Horwich of Taylor Falls, MN, and daughter, Debra Peterson of Scottsdale, AZ; grandchildren—Jeffery Lloyd (Lorna) Horwich of St, Paul, MN, and Joel Horwich of Boston, MA; great-grandchildren—Sebastian and Geneva Horwich; children of wife Kate Mellen-Peterson; siblings—Blaine (Arlene) Peterson and Doug (Vicky) Peterson, all of Gothenburg, and Dorothy Taylor of Modesto, CA, Larry (Judy) Peterson of Lake Havasu, AZ, Brian (Barb) Peterson of Loveland, CO; sisters-in-law—Thelma (Bill) Peterson of Gothenburg, Joanne (Glenn) Peterson of Washington and Marvelle (Harold) Peterson of California; numerous nieces and nephews.
