Mary A. Curtis
Mrs. Mary A. Curtis, for many years a resident of Stockville, died at Burkett, Nebraska, Thursday, April 12th, after having been in poor health for several years. Her remains were brot to Stockville Saturday by her son, Theodore Curtis, and funeral services were held at the Methodist church Sunday. Interment was made in the Stockville cemetery. The funeral services were in charge of Rev. C. M. McCorkle, pastor of the Curtis Methodist church. Mr. McCorkle spoke very freely of Mrs. Curtis’ Christian life and her influence on his own life.
Mrs. Curtis lived in Stockville for many years. She was an active member of the Methodist church and her life was wrapped up in church work. Her many friends here and elsewhere will be sorry to hear of her death. Her life will be a monument to her memory and nothing the writer could say would increase the respect in which she was held.
Mary A. Graver was born in New York City on December 20, 1834. Was married to Theodore Curtis and moved to Wakefield, Massachusetts. One son was born to them. Mr. Curtis served in the Civil war but died soon after the war closed. Mrs. Curtis came to Richardson county, Nebraska, in 1881 and to Frontier county in 1883. She resided here until a few years ago, the last few years of her life being spent in Burkett, Nebraska. She has been a Christian and a member of the Methodist church for many years, and her activities in the Stockville Methodist church are well remembered by her old friends here.
She died at Burkett, Nebraska, April 12, 1917, aged 82 years, 3 months and 22 days. She leaves her son, Theodore D. Curtis and one grandson, Herbert F. Curtis, to mourn her loss besides a host of friends.
