Obituary.
Anson J. Palmatier died at his home in Maywood, on Sunday, June 11, 1899, at the age of 75 years. The deceased was born in Livingston, Columbia Co., N. Y. He attended the district school and at an early age turned his attention to mechanical pursuits. He was united in marriage with Sarah E. Crandall, at Albany, N. Y. on July 15, 1851, to this union was born two children, one of which died in infancy. Mr. Palmatier answered to his country’ call for defenders and enlisted in Co. B. 77th Reg. N. Y. Vol., in Sept. 24, 1861, and was honorably discharged on Jan. 5, 1863 by reason of epilepsy and general debility.
He has been, since early manhood an enthusiastic christian and labored always for the upbuilding of mankind, charitable, social and esteemed by all who enjoyed his acquaintance.
Mr. Palmatier pulled out into the tide of western emigration and landed in Frontier county, Neb. in 1880, where he has since resided, having located on the Medicine, in Stockville precinct. In 1882 he took a contract to carry the mail from the Curtis P. O. at the mouth of Curtis creek via Laird P. O. on Brush creek on John Miller’s place up to Medicine Lake. His promptness in making time through storms and snow, over the almost trackless prairies was very noticeable and is often mentioned by old settlers yet, but it was only revealing to his fellow man a great principle of his character—duty to law and society. Mr. Palmatier worked at mechanical pursuits in Stockville, Moorefield and Curtis. He located in Maywood in 1894 where he has since resided.
The funeral was held in the M. E. church, of which he was an honored and worthy member; Rev. Armstrong preched the sermon, after which the Grand Army Post took charge and the remains were laid in the Maywood cemetery according to the ritual services of his G. A. R. brethren—a faithful and esteemed brother of the order.
He leaves a loving and devoted wife, a grand daughter and her husband four great grand children, in Maywood to mourn his loss.
