Funeral at Edgar Wednesday Morning
Nicolas Anderton was born in Halifax county, West Va., March 29, 1840, and died March 26, 1917, at the Soldiers and Sailors’ Home at Grand Island, Neb., aged three days less than 77 years.
Scarcely had Mr. Anderton reached his majority when he heard his nation’s call for men and enlisted in the 32nd Illinois Volunteer Infantry and served throughout the civil war. He continued in the United States service in the capacity of an indian fighter.
In the ’7’s Mr. Anderton came to Nebraska and here remained until he went to the Soldiers and Sailors’ Home at Grand Island.
The body was brought to Edgar Wednesday morning, March 28, and a short funeral service was conducted at the cemetery by F. J. Sanborn, pastor of the Church of Christ, the funeral party going directly from the depot to the cemetery.
Relatives from out of town who were present were Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Anderton and Mr. and Mrs. C. Paul of Grand Island. An old friend of Mr. Anderton’s from Home, Mr. Ball, and a number of Edgar relatives and friends were in attendance.
