Clifford A. Warner

Clifford A. Warner, a resident of Stockvill and vicinity for over forty years, passed away at the hosptial in Cambridge on Saturday evening, Sept. 29, 1928.

Mr. Warner was born in Chadron, Ohio, on April 13, 1859. About 7 years later the family located in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, where Clifford grew to young manhood and was educated in the public schools. After completing the high school course he entered Hillsdale college at Hillsdale, Mich., where he studied for three years and was within one year of completing his college course and receiving his degree. While in college he was obliged to pay his own way as best he could and did so by selling maps in the country during his vacations. It was at Hillsdale that he and C. M. Brown of Cambridge chanced to meet for a couple of years. Later chance again brought them together, both coming to western Nebraska at practically the same time. A friendship without flaw endured throughout all the years.

At the close of his third year in college he went to Texas, where he spent some time. He came to Nebraska in 1886 and secured a homestead east of Stockville on the Deer [Creek]. From this time until the time of his death he followed various vocations — farmer and stock grower, school teacher in numerous districts, editor and publisher of the Faber for a number of years, and later county surveyor for several terms and at the time of his death he held this office.

He was a useful citizen in his Nebraska home and he was appreciated. Sorrow was sincere in his passing for one who, in his humble way, performed the the duties of citizen and friend and public benefactor conscientiously and to the best of his ability. Kind, generous, sincere and trusting, he gave to each and oll of those that he met all that he had, a kindly greeting with a pleasant smile, a warm and friendly heart and and soul, a helping hand if needed and a sincere wish for their prosperity and happiness. He sowed in the fertile soil of human minds and hearts of old and young and reaped a harvest of golden opinions, undying friendships and imperishable gratitude.

Of his father’s family, his sister, Pearl, Mrs. Elfred Overton, of Westfield, New York, survives and was present at the funeral. Interment was made at Stockville, Nebr., on Oct. 2, with services under the auspices of the Odd Fellows Lodge, of which Mr. Warner had long been a member. Rev. Lauren Messersmith had charge of the services.
