David Stubblefield Funeral Tuesday
Holdrege Man Dies at His Home Friday, January 5, at the Age of 84.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, January 9, from the Baker home for David Stubblefield who died at his home Friday, January 5. Rev. Victor West was in charge of the services. Miss Belle Manley and C. A. Magill sang, accompanied at the piano by Mrs. R. E. Sehnert.
David Jasper Stubblefield was born December 15, 1855, at Caldwell, Missouri. He died January 5, 1940, at Holdrege, being just past 84 years of age.
While living in Parks county, Iowa, he met and married Louvina Elizabeth Henderson, January 27, 1879. To them were born three sons, John D. of Elsie, Nebraska, Roy L. of Eustis and Victor A. of Los Angeles, California; three daughters, Mrs. Mary E. Lewis of Arapahoe, Mrs. Alice Carter of Folson, Colorado, and Mrs. G. I. Hunt of Holyoke, Colorado; 23 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.
In 1884 they moved to Frontier county, Nebraska, where they lived until 1911 when they moved to Holdrege. Mrs. Stubblefield passed away September 17, 1932.
Since that time Mr. Stubblefield has made Holdrege his home. He made many trips to California and to other points for visits with his children. But to him, Holdrege has always been home.
He was a member of the Methodist Protestant church, one of the three churches that united to make the new Methodist church. He was a pioneer with a pioneer spirit. He was a good citizen, faithful to his trust and devoted to Christian religion.
