Reinhardt Schmidt
(Obituary)

Reinhardt Schmidt, second son of John F. and Albertena (Alrich) Schmidt, was born in the province of Pommen, Germany on the 16th day of November, 1862, and passed away at his home in Mason City, Nebraska July 20, 1937, having reached the age of 75 years, 8 months and 4 days. He grew to manhood and received his education in Germany. In the year 1882 he came with his parents to the United States, locating on a farm near Swanton, where seven years of his life were spent. On July 20, 1885, he was united in marriage to Miss Ida Bramer, a member of a well-known pioneer family of Saline county. To this marriage nine children were born; six of whom preceded their father in death, and the wife and mother passed away in May, 1898. In 1892 Mr. Schmidt filed on a Lincoln county homestead, and with his family made this home for thirteen years. His residence in Custer county dates from the year 1903, at which time he established a home on Elk Creek thirteen miles from Mason City. On June 6, 1914, at Espinola, Florida he was married to Miss Kate Dougherty, who has been his devoted companion for more than twenty-three years. Mr. Schmidt was always a diligent, industrious citizen, and continued to operate his farm until November of last year, when failing health made it necessary for him to retire from active duties and move to Mason City, which was his home at the time of his death.

Besides his faithful wife, Kate Dougherty Schmidt, the deceased leaves to mourn his passing three daughters: Mrs. W. M. Coleman, Parmelelee, S. D., Mrs. Caroline Schmidt, Denver, Colorado; and Mrs. W. M. Bohannan, Jacksonville, Florida; three brothers, Albert of Lodgepole, Nebr.; Theodore of Wellfleet, Nebr.; and Edward of Fairbury, Nebr. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and numerous other relatives and friends.

Funeral rites were held Thursday afternoon at the Baptist church with Rev. L. J. Moran in charge. Burial was made in the Mason City cemetery.
