Lincoln Grant Smith

Lincoln Grant Smith, son of James H. and Polly A. Smith, was born near Blue River Station, Wisc., Nov. 23rd, 1866. Died Nov. 18, 1930. About 35 years ago he made a profession of faith at Farnam, Neb., and later joined the Methodist church at Gothenburg, Neb. In 1907 he with his family moved to Sims, Ill., where he joined the Sims Baptist church. He was ordained a Deacon, an office he held at the time of his departure. Mr. Smith has been in poor health the last two years. Paralysis claimed him as a victim. He wa a good man, held in high esteem by all who knew him. He loved his family, his church, his masonic and Odd Fellows lodges and his neighbors.

On July 28, 1889, he was married to Miss Emma R. Applegate. To them six children were born: Ethel Fenton, deceased; Mrs. Ruby Jones, Mrs. Hattie Harris, Howard E., Mrs. Cora Belle Power, and Allen Smith. There are eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

The funeral took place Thursday afternoon at the Sims church, at two o’clock. The services were conducted by Rev. James Whitson. The Wayne City Masonic lodge assisted at the services at the church. The burial was at Hopewell churchyard.—Fairfield, Ill., Press.
