Last Rites for A. J. Ealy, Pioneer Resident of Moorefield Held Tuesday
Alfred Jackson Ealy, known around Moorefield as “Uncle Dick” was born January 7, 1856 near Greenville, Tenn. Departed this life August 20, 1939. Age 83 years 7 months 13 days.
Mr. Ealy moved with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Ealy, from Tenn. to Arkansas when he was a child, remaining there with them until after the Civil War. Then he, with his parents moved to Belle Plaine, Ia., where he spent the most of his childhood days.
Uncle Dick came to Moorefield in 1883 and filed on his claim, then wen to the eastern part of the State where he remained only a short time, returning to Moorefield in the spring of 1884 and lived here the last 55 years.
On March 4, 1886 Mr. Ealy was united in marriage to Miss Hester M. Guinn. To this union were born five children, two sons, and three daughters. Mrs. Bert Ealy of Sundance, Wyo., Harold of Moorefield, Mrs. Hazel McLaughlin of Sundance, Wyo., Gordon of Midwest, Wyo., and Mrs. Gertrude Stone of Laird, Colo.
There are 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Uncle Dick’s wife preceded him in death a little more than 21 years. There are left to mourn his passing besides the above named children one brother, G. W. Ealy and one sister, Mrs. Emma Rush, both of Belle Plaine, Iowa.
Uncle Dick was baptized into the Church of God, August 1917 and lived a true, devout life, and was an active member of the faith the last 22 years of his life. Now, he sleeps, until the morning.
Funeral services were held in the Union church, conducted by Elder E. E. Giesler. He was lain to rest in the Moorefield cemetery there to await the call of the Master to the resurrection.
