Edward Franey Passes Away

Edward L. Franey passed away at his home in this city on Sunday, June 5th, 1938, after a lingering illness aged 78 years, 1 month and 25 days.

Edward Lloyd Franey was born on April 10th, 1860, at Galesburg, Illinois. When a young man he went to the western part of the United States, spending about two years in Montana. He homesteaded in Frontier county, Nebraska.

On March 4th, 1894, he was united in marriage to Frances Pearson at Cozad, Nebraska. To this union six children were born.

In 1908, he moved to Gosper county, Nebraska, where he resided until 1917, when he moved with his family to Dawes county, and located on a farm, southeast of Crawford. He resided there until his health began to fail when he moved to Crawford about a year ago, where he was living at the time of his death.

Mr. Franey was a highly respected citizen and a devoted husband and father. He was indeed, a good friend and neighbor and will be greatly missed by relatives and friends.

He leaves to mourn his departure, besided his wife, three sons, Earl Merton Franey, of Arapahoe, Nebr.; Edward Arthur of Crawford; Irad Lloyd of the U. S. Navy in Shanghai, China; three daughters, Mrs. Hallie Major of Smithfield, Nebr.; Mrs. Leila Golden of Crawford and Mrs. Hildred Barber of Chadron; nine grandchildren; one brother, Mitchell Franey, of Hickman, Nebraska; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Ives of Pontiac, Illinois and Mrs. Delia Cook, of Forest, Illinois, numerous other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church on Tuesday afternoon conducted by Willie Kleffman and interment was made in the Crawford cemetery.
