Forrest D. Johnson

Forrest D. Johnson, 82, of Gothenburg, NE, formerly of Farnam, died February 24, 2016 at his home in Gothenburg, NE.

He was born May 3, 1933 in Farnam, NE, son of Fred and Judith (Isaacson) Johnson.

Forrest grew up on the family farm south of Farnam, NE and graduated from Farnam High School with the class of 1951. He served his country in the US Army from 1953 to 1955. After his discharge, he returned to Farnam. He married Jewel Anderson on April 21, 1956 at the Svea Dal Evangelical Covenant Church near Brady. They were the parents of six children—Julie, Joy, Janine, Jerry, Jamie, and Jill. The couple moved to the family farm where they resided until 1999, after which he and Jewel moved to Gothenburg and operated the Resting Place Bed and Breakfast. Forrest always enjoyed associating with other farmers. From 1989 until his death, Forrest served other farmers as a Crop Insurance Adjuster with Rain and Hail Insurance. Forrest was a member of the Farnam Church of the Nazarene, Gideons International, the American Legion and the VFW.

Survived by his wife, Jewel of Gothenburg; six children, Julie (Steve) Rushing of Jacksonville, FL; Joy (Dave) Ness of Seattle, WA; Janine (Jeff) Griss of Kearney; Jerry (Teresa) Johnson of Farnam; Jamie (Stepheanie) Johnson of Gothenburg; Jill (James) Palmer of Stark City, MO; 19 grandchildren, four great grandchildren; two sisters: Adelay Bassler of Tehachapi, CA; Dorothy Milner of Imperial; one brother Donald Johnson of Thousand Oaks, CA; along with numerous extended family and friends.

Forrest was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Judith, ten siblings: Erminda Johnson, Rhoda Seay, Eugene Johnson, Virgil Johnson, Ardell Johnson, Lorena Kennicutt, Aliene Stewart, Nevin Johnson, Dora Sass, Ruby Walker, and Reuben Johnson.

Family will receive visitors on Saturday, February 27, 2016, 2:00 pm—4:00 pm, at the Evangelical Free Church, 1721 Lake Avenue, Gothenburg, NE.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, February 28, 2016, 4:00 pm, at The Church of the Nazarene, Farnam, NE.

Private Inurnment will be at Fort McPherson National Cemetery.
