OBITUARY
John Nicholas Ommert was born January 12, 1862, in Oberkalbach, Germany, and departed this life, October 27, 1932, at the age of 70 years, 9 months, and 15 days.
At the age of 17 years he came to America, locating in Claypool, Ind., and homesteaded near Goodland, Kansas.
As an early pioneer, he was known widely by his work of putting down many of the first wells of this country.
In the year of 1892, he returned to Claypool, Ind., where he was united in marriage to Mary Etta Parker, February 4, and returned with his bride in March to their home near Orafino, where they have resided to the time of the departure.
To this union seven children were born, all of whom are living; Otto Boyd, near Ingham; Carl Parker, Mrs. Achsa Messersmith, Clair Dewey, Esther Agnes; Mrs. Lois Rosenfelt and Mrs. Ruth Frommer, all of near Orafino.
He was a kind and loving husband and father, considerate friend and neighbor.
He was converted and united with the Evangelical church in 1893, to which he gave of his time and support, holding various offices, and faithfully discharged the duties of trustee for 25 years.
During the months of patient suffering, he gave the assurance that all was well, and ready to go.
He leaves to mourn his departure, his loving wife, seven children, eleven grand children, one sister, Mrs. Eva Enzman of Canton, Ohio, one brother in Germany, other relatives and a host of friends.
Anna, a sister, of Mr. Ommert, preceeded him in death several years ago.
The funeral service was held Saturday afternoon in the Orafino Evangelical church, and burial made in the Cambridge cemetery. M. F. Lempke, pastor of the local church, and Rev. C. Jannen, Supt. of the Hastings district, officiated.
