James Harrison Powell
James Harrison Powell, 586 W. Center Street, who committed suicide with a rifle while seated in an automobile parked at the side of S. Garey avenue, south of Burnley airport, Saturday morning, had made arrangements to enter a hospital for medical treatment, it was revealed today following an investigation.
At the last moment, it is believed, he changed his mind and decided to end his life by suicide. There will be no inquest, according to Fred E. Brown, who is in charge of funeral arrangements. Time for the funeral will not be set until after arrival of relatives from the East.
Mr. Powell was born in Nebraska, January 22, 1890, and had lived in Pomona for the past nine years. He had never married and was making his home, at the time of his death, with his mother, Mrs. Mary Powell. Besides his mother, he is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Anna Newth of Nebraska, Mrs. Luella Airehart of Illinois and Mrs. J. W. Luepnitz.
