Mrs. Lucy Bailey
Lucy H. Baker was born in St. Johns, Newfoundland, September 29, 1862. She passed from this life at Scottsbluff, Nebraska, Wednesday, November 5, 1941, at the age of 79 years, one month and six days.
She was married to James T. Bailey at Worcester, Mass., Oct. 18, 1882. They came to Nebraska in 1886 and the Stockville community has been their home since that time. Mr. Bailey died March 9, 1941.
Five children were born to them: Mrs. Warren Oliver of Scottsbluff, Nebr., G. W. Bailey of Stockville, Mrs. A. G. Williams of Lincoln, Mrs. G. C. Cole of Stockville, and Everett J., who died in March, 1936. Besides a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Mrs. Bailey is survived by a sister, Mrs. W. H. Bailey of Colorado Springs, Colo., a brother, John Baker of Halifax, Nova Scotia, and many friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Bailey enjoyed 58 years of happiness together, the treasured memory of which is a source of much comfort to the children and relatives. The Bailey home has been the scene of many happy family and neighborhood gatherings, and was revered by children and grandchildren alike. Their influence will continue in the hearts of friends and neighbors. Their name will be perpetuated in the “Bailey Place” and the “Bailey School” so well known in Frontier county.
Funeral services were held in the church at Stockville Saturday afternoon, November 8, Rev. L. H. Messersmith in charge. The body was laid to rest in the Stockville cemetery.
