Bailey Rites Are Held At Stockville Elderly Pioneer Passes Sunday; Homesteaded Here in 1886
James T. Bailey, 80-year-old Frontier county pioneer, died at his home in Stockville early Sunday morning after a year of periodic illness.
He had homesteaded on a farm five miles east of Stockville in 1886 and had lived there until he moved to the village four years ago.
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at the Congregational Church in Stockville in charge of Rev. L. H. Messersmith of Cambridge. Interment was in the Stockville cemetery.
James Thomas Bailey, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Bailey, was born at Lincolnshire, England, April 2, 1861.
When he was three years old, the family came to America, resided at Worcester, Mass.
On October 18, 1882 Mr. Bailey and Miss Lucy Baker were married at Worcester. They came to Nebraska in 1886, homesteading five miles east of Stockville, where they lived the greater part of their married life.
On October 18, 1932, Mr. and Mrs. Bailey celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, all of their children and hosts of friends enjoying the happy occasion with them.
Since March, 1937, they have made their home in Stockville.
On March 9, 1941, Mr. Bailey passed away at the age of 79 years, 11 months and 23 days.
Besides his widow, he is survived by four children, Mrs. Ethel Oliver of Scottsbluff, Geo. William, who lives east of Stockville, Mrs. A. G. Williams of Lincoln, and Mrs. Judith Cole of Stockville; a brother, George F., who lives east of Stockville; 12 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. A son, Everett J. died March 12, 1936.
