Arson Suspected In Oakland Fire
OAKLAND (AP) — Homicide and arson investigators are looking into a five-alarm fire which claimed two lives in the Oakland Hills area, authorities said.
The bodies of Kim Specka, 4, and Ona Goeltl, 85, of Loveland, Colo., her great-grandmother, were recovered following the Wednesday evening fire which destroyed one home and damaged two others, firemen said.
Fire department arson investigators and a police homicide squad were called to the fire scene.
Authorities said the $100,000 home occupied by Robert and Pamela Speka was destroyed in the fire. Adjacent homes suffered less serious damage.
The Oakland Fire Department said it sent 19 units and 67 men to the scene. The Speka home, perched on a hillside, collapsed after catching fire and slid down into the canyon.
