Loren Fred Jackson

Loren Fred Jackson, 92, of Hershey, passed away surrounded by family July 2, 2015, at Golden Living Center in Cozad.

Loren was born on May 19, 1923, to Fred William and Nellie Lister Jackson in North Platte, where he grew up. Loren graduated from North Platte High School, then went to work for different ranches in the area.

On May 28, 1944, Loren married Gladys Irene Johnson in North Platte. They farmed and ranched in the Brady and Paxton areas, and Loren worked for Jim Lawler from 1966-92. Loren enjoyed doing what he did and working horses and cattle. After retiring in 1992, they moved from the Paxton area to rural Hershey. Loren and Gladys celebrated nearly 66 years of marriage before she passed away in 2010.

Loren was a champion horseshoe pitcher and a member of Platte Valley Horseshoe Pitchers. Along with pitching horseshoes, Loren loved to hunt, fish, garden and do woodworking. He especially loved life and his family.

Along with his wife, Gladys, Loren was preceded in death by their son, Fred W.; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Jackson; a brother, John; two sisters, Lucille Callahan and Marie Stevenson; and his parents, Fred and Nellie.

He is survived by his children, James M. Jackson, of North Platte, and Catherine L. (Jeff) Dillehay, of Lincoln; five grandchildren, Sean (Tr­acey) Jackson, Amanda (Dave) Leighton, all of North Platte, Brian Jackson, of Sutherland, Jody (Jason) Kubicek, of Waco, and Jeff (Tawnya) Jackson, of Cozad; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Hodo, of LaHarpe, Kansas; brother, Clarence Jackson, of North Platte; cousin, Bob (Valarie) Jackson, of Maxwell; and several nieces, nephews and other family.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 7, at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore with Ron Jay officiating. Inurnment will follow at Gaslin Cemetery south of Brady. The memorial book may be signed from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, June 6, at Odean Colonial Chapel at C & Sycamore, which is in charge of arrangements.
