Laura May Phillips

Laura May Hannah Phillips, 72, was born Nov. 8, 1884 in Clay County, Iowa and died on Oct. 29, 1957 in her home in Dickens after an extended illness.

As a girl she came with her parents to Havelock where she received her education. In 1902, she came to Farnam and taught school.

She was united in marriage at Stockville on March 28, 1906 to Jesse Phillips. To this union five children were born. They resided in Farnam five years and then moved to Somerset in 1911. She was baptized in the Baptist Church in Dickens.

In 1920, they moved from Somerset to Dickens.

One daughter, Ida May, preceded her in death.

Survivors are her widower, Jesse; daughters, Virginia Sullivan, Maxwell and Edith McMichael, Chino, Calif; sons Claire, South Gate, Calif., Harold of Elsie and seven grandchildren.

She was an active member of the Ladies Aid and the Cemetery Circle as long as her health permitted.

She was a news reporter for the Lincoln County Tribune for 30 years. Later she wrote for the Telegraph-Bulletin and the World Herald.

Mrs. Phillips served as Dickens postmaster for 13 years and received a medical retirement in March.
