James Nelsen Mercer was born on December 11th, 1854 at Decator, Ia., and died September 20th, 1936; at the age of 81 years, 9 months, and 9 days, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Nellie Devine, at Oconto, Nebraska.

Mr. Mercer came to Nebraska in the year 1882 and settled on a homestead North of Eustis.

On December 7th, 1885 he was married to Miss Agnes Parker at Lexington, Nebr. Shortly after this, Mr. and Mrs. Mercer moved to a farm north of Farnam where they resided for 24 years.

They moved to Brady three years ago, residing here since.

Nelse Mercer leaves to mourn his passing 7 children, four sons and three daughters: George, of Culbertson; Earl, of Fort Collins; Harry, of Brady; Clarence, of North Platte; Mrs. Nellie Devine, of Oconto; Mrs. Hattie Wilcox, of Buhl, Idaho; and Mrs. Mable Craig, of Brady.

Three children preceeded him to the Great Beyond.

Besides his immediate family he leaves 33 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild.

He was a kind and loving husband and father, a loyal neighbor and his passing will be mouned by many.
