Obituary
Funeral services for John Colligan, 91, a native of this city, who passed away at his home here Saturday morning, May 21, after several months of failing health, were held at the Brennan funeral home at 10 o’clock Monday morning, with the Rev. Howard Brummitt in charge. Interment followed in St. Patrick’s cemetery.
A son of the late John and Catherine Malloy Colligan, the deceased was born in Henry February 1, 1864.
He grew to manhood here and was educated in the Henry schools often recalling in later years the old Henry college which he attended and the associations made there.
As a young man he went to Farnam, Nebraska, where he homesteaded and farmed for many years. After retiring he spent considerable time with nieces and nephews in Nebraska and also, prior to her death, with a sister, Mrs. Mary Powell in Pomona, California. For the past three years he had resided in Henry and had been hospitalized several times in recent months.
Surviving are a sister, Miss Emma Colligan, and a brother, James and wife; also several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Mrs. Anna Sherman, Mrs. Mary Powell, Mrs. Nell Williams, and Mrs. Katherine Motter; and a brother, Tom.
Among those attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Newth.
