Fall Is Fatal To Aged Woman

Mrs. Lydia Horn, 87, died at the Farnam hospital Tuesday morning, March 22, 1938, following injuries received in a fall the afternoon before at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. E. Hopkins, south of Farnam where she has made her home the past four months.

Grandma Horn fell while walking in the yard, and due to her advanced years the injuries received caused her death.

Mrs. Horn lived in and near Arapahoe for many years, but for the past five years, due to failing health has lived with her children. Mr. Horn has been dead for many years.

She is survived by her immediate family: Mrs. W. E. Hopkins, Farnam; Mrs. M. M. Hardesty, Arapahoe; Mrs. Bert Brown, Wauneta; Mrs. John Barrett, Randel, Kansas; Katherine Horn, Arapahoe; Mrs. Bert Manson and Mrs. Rue Downer of Idaho; Richard J. Horn, LaSalle, Colo.; W. Horn, Randel Kans., and many other relatives and friends.

LYDIA L. HORN

Lydia L. Holl, eldest child of Richard and Rebecca Holl, was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, Nov. 20, 1850 and died at the Farnam hospital, Farnam, Nebraska, Mar. 22, 1938. Age 87 years, 4 months and 2 days.

When but a small child she moved with her parents to New Castle, Ohio, where she resided until her marriage to Jacob Horn, Sept. 24, 1873. In 1887 she came with her family to Homerville, Gosper county, Nebraska. She resided in that vicinity until the spring of 1914, when she moved to Arapahoe, Nebr., where she made her home. Due to failing health and old age she has spent the past five and a half years with her children.

When stricken she was at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. E. Hopkins of Farnam, Nebr. Because of the seriousness of her illness it was found necessary to take her to the Farnam hospital where she passed away.

She is survived by seven daughters and one son, Mrs. Mary Hardesty of Arapahoe; Mrs. Maud Hopkins, of Farnam; Mrs. Dora Mason of Caldwell, Idaho; Mrs. Minnie Barrett of Randall, Kan., Mrs. Gladys Brown of Wauneta; Mrs. Bertha Dawner of Meridian, Idaho; Richard Horn of La Salle, Colo.; Katherine Horn of Arapahoe; a stepson, A. W. Horn of Jewell, Kan.; a step-daughter, Effie B. McClurg, Greer, Ohio. She also leaves 47 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Her husband and three daughters preceded her in death.

She was the last of her family to pass away. Her last brother died last November. Early in life she united with the church and was a faithful Christian until the end came.

She was a kind faithful and devoted wife and mother. She gave her all to her family.

Wherever we may go.
No other one can fill the place
That's vacant now, we know.
But Mother, Oh, Dear Mother
Your [sic] at home in Heaven with God
Where all is sunshine with no sorrow
Where streets of gold are trod.

The funeral was held at the Methodist church at Arapahoe, with burial at the Arapahoe cemetery.

Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Horn and Arlen, Mr. and Mrs. Alton Horn of LaSalle, Colo.; Mr. and Mrs. Bert Brown, son, Wilber and daughters, Mrs. Lawrence Ingold and Mrs. Floyd Lavitt of Wauneta, Nebr. and Mrs. John Barrett of Randall, Kan.
