Mary Etta Penn, daughter of Benjamin and Mary Penn, was born June 10, 1864, in Van Buren county Iowa, and departed from this life on December 26, 1942, at the age of 78 years, 6 months and 16 days.

She was united in marriage to James F. Metcalf December 22, 1881 at Dunlap, Missouri. In 1884 she moved with her husband from that state to Fillmore county, Nebraska, then to Moorefield in 1890, then to six miles southeast of Stockville, her home until her death.

Her husband and one daughter, Elsie Grace, preceded her in death.

She leaves to mourn her loss five children, Inez May Brock of Farnam, Charles Finley of Orafino, George Dewey of Farnam, Marion Randolph of Ingham, Nellie Gertrude Whelean of Stockville, nineteen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, three brothers, four sisters and a host of neighbors and friends.

Funeral services were conducted at the Orafino church by Rev. Walter H. Lenz. Interment was in the Orafino cemetery.

Pallbearers were Harry Herman, Ed Weiss, Philip Johnson, Jake and Carl Max and Lloyd Messersmith.
